Sandrine's Bistro will close "within weeks," notes Toscanini's Gus Rancatore on Facebook, also waxing nostalgic about the former occupants of the space — 8 Holyoke and, before that, Pizzeria Regina. "A rumor that the lovable madcaps from La Voile would be taking over the space is apparently false," he continues, "and one person said that the restaurant will be replaced by an Irish bar. Oh good."
The information from those earlier reports has indeed evolved, as Classic Restaurant Concepts LLC — the group behind The Asgard and The Kinsale — has ultimately made the purchase instead of La Voile's team, as confirmed by bankruptcy filings. No word yet on whether the Sandrine's space will turn into a second outpost of one of the group's existing restaurants or whether it'll be a new concept. Each serves an Irish-inspired menu of comfort food.
The soon-to-close Sandrine's specializes in French food, and Rancatore notes that the signature "Alsatian pizza," the tarte flambée, is only available on the lunch menu.
UPDATE: Peter Sarmanian, co-owner of The Asgard and The Kinsale, confirms that they're working on a new restaurant for the Sandrine's space, but it will not be an Irish pub or a bar. The project is in the early planning stages at the moment. Stay tuned for more.
