Wrecking Ball Aims for Sweetwater Tavern

Following the announcement that The Estate nightclub will close at the end of this month, Sweetwater Tavern is another victim of Emerson College's student-housing expansion project at Boylston Place, also known as the Alley. Boston Restaurant Talk noted that last night was the longstanding pub's final hurrah.

Emerson College is taking over 1-3 Boylston Place to build an 18-story dorm with nearly 400 beds. Construction will start in earnest in April, and Boston Business Journal reported the new residences will be open in fall 2019.

Sweetwater Tavern offered unpretentious pub food at 3 Boylston Place for 36 years. Its in-house trivia night was named Best of Boston in 2014 by Boston A-List.
