This weekend is your last chance to feast on the liver and bacon plate that's been a staple at Mandy & Joe's in Brighton Center for 67 years, as the greasy spoon is shuttering for good after service this Sunday, March 29, Boston Restaurant Talk reports from a Brighton Main Streets press release.
Brothers Armand and Joseph Mariano started the restaurant in 1948, originally specializing as a delicatessen. They moved the business to its current location at 328 Washington St. in 1962 and started serving most of the same breakfast, lunch, and dinner items that fulfill its customers today, like three-decker sandwiches, tuna and egg salad, chicken pot pie, and Jell-O with whipped cream. In the early 2000s, Joseph's son Richard Mariano and his wife, Ingrid, took over the family business.
BRT says the owners plan to retire.
