1) LOWER ALLSTON & WEST END — Two Jimmy John's have just opened in the area, one on Western Avenue and one near North Station. The sandwich chain, which was founded in 1983, has over 2,000 locations around the country. Status: Certified open. 380 Western Ave., (617) 903-3535; 60 Valenti Way, (617) 238-5446.

2) ASSEMBLY ROW — Another sandwich chain, Which Wich, is the latest addition to Somerville's ever-growing Assembly Row complex. "Slightly confusing, quite delightful," notes one early Yelp review.
