More than a year after the West Roxbury Bulletin first reported that a local watering hole is changing hands, Eat With Jack O'Neill is hiring front-of-house staff. A job listing posted today on BostonChefs.com loses anonymity by asking interested parties to email a resume to eatwithjackoneill@gmail.com.
Eat With Jack O'Neill, a new venture by Squealing Pig owner Diarmuid O'Neill, will open at some point in the former West Roxbury Pub and Restaurant space. While ownership was originally aiming for a March 2014 opening, O'Neill told the West Roxbury Neighborhood Council in November that the building at 1885 Centre St. had some structural issues that delayed renovations and thus, his opening timeframe.
The November West Roxbury Transcript article sheds some light on O'Neill's vision for the new place: "Our business is food," he said, adding there will be traditional Irish music on Sunday afternoons. While initial reports suggested Eat With Jack O'Neill would also have a bakery, O'Neill denied that.
The new job listing suggests craft cocktails and beer will be the new bar's focus. While Eat With Jack O'Neill is also hiring door staff, they do not want bouncers. "We're not into drunkenness or late night parties," O'Neill said in November.
The forthcoming restaurant has a Facebook page, and while it hasn't been updated since May, perhaps the team will resurrect it as Eat With Jack O'Neill moves toward opening.
