In December, cooking instructor, Tu y Yo alum, and hopeful future restaurant owner Estela Calzada popped up at Somerville's Kitchen Inc. with a tamale breakfast event. Since everyone loves tamale breakfasts, it's turning into a series that will take place on the second Saturday of every month (February 14, March 14, April 11, and May 9) at 10 a.m., again at Kitchen Inc. in Union Square (201 Somerville Ave.)
Three tamales will be featured each time — two savory (like mole, pollo con salsa verde, or oaxaqueno) and one sweet (like pina, chocolate, or cinnamon), plus two hot drinks (ponche and cafe de olla). While supplies last, diners can get two tamales and a hot drink for $10. ("The early bird gets the tamale," promises a flyer for the event.)
