UpperWest Is Still Trying to Open on Massachusetts Avenue

The potential Cambridge restaurant and wine bar has been battling obstacles for a year.

UpperWest, a "small, casual wine bar," has been trying to open at 1001 Massachusetts Ave. (between Central and Harvard Square) for nearly a year, but its efforts have so far been blocked thanks to the licensing process and a nearby competitor.

In a new blog post on its website, first noticed by Boston Restaurant Talk, UpperWest details the frustrating trials and tribulations of 2014 at length but ends with an uplifting note:

"We are still working hard on getting UpperWest open, with potential for the same location. For legal reasons, we will hold off on more details for now, but there should be announcements before long."

When UpperWest does come to fruition, diners can expect "a European style restaurant with a coffee bar theme during the daytime, and a wine bar theme in the evenings." On the menu: "artisanal charcuterie and cheese, in addition to small plates of hand made pastas, braised meats, and much more." The restaurant also plans to have "a strong community focus," including lots of "social and networking opportunities."
