Sure, there may be seven-foot snowbanks everywhere you turn, but the first sign of spring is here — the annual reopening of Sullivan's on Castle Island. Hidden Boston tweets a reminder that tomorrow, February 28, is the glorious day. The hot dog (and more) stand opens daily at 8:30 a.m. and closes "when there are more seagulls than cars in the parking lot." (Best to call first in these colder months, but it's generally around 10 p.m. in the summer.)
As an opening week celebration, Sullivan's will be offering half-priced hot dogs (95 cents, plus tax) through Friday, March 6. The restaurant promises that the pathway to the restaurant and most of the parking lot is clear of snow, but bids you to please use extreme caution.
Sullivan's opened in 1951 and has been a beloved seasonal tradition since then, serving up affordable sandwiches, fried seafood, hot dogs and hamburgers, ice cream, and the like. After all these years, Sullivan's might open a second location; it'd be at the Hingham Bathing Beach off Route 3A.
