While Townsman officially opens tomorrow, those who can't wait can head to the soft opening tonight (keeping in mind, of course, that it's a soft opening, so be patient and kind). OpenTable's got plenty of reservations available — for now.
Boston Magazine shared a peek at the menu today, and it has everything from a variety of crudos and cured meats to shareable entrees like a 32-ounce rib steak or an Amish farm hen, each meant for two.
The overarching idea, according to a press release, is "locally driven, New England brasserie-inspired fare," courtesy of Boston native Matt Jennings, who has been wowing Providence for the past decade at his restaurant Farmstead, Inc. (which he closed in June to open this). Co-chefs Brian Young (Harvest, Post 390) and Matt Leddy (Farmstead) round out the culinary team, along with pastry chef Meghan Thompson (Steel & Rye).
Citizen Public House alum Sean Frederick is managing the bar, offering up New England-y cocktails like the Indian Pudding Milk Punch (corn whiskey, aged rum, muscovado, whey, vanilla, and spices). Meanwhile, Menton alum Meredith Gallagher is both general manager and wine director, and she intends to highlight "small, old world producers and growers, with a focus in elegant French wines, biodynamic and organic bottles," according to the release.
Townsman, which is located in the Radian building, looks out onto the Greenway. It's open for dinner 5:30 p.m. to 10 p.m. Monday through Thursday and 5:30 p.m. to 11 p.m. Friday and Saturday, with the bar open until 1 a.m. six days a week. The restaurant is closed on Sundays.
