1) WEST ROXBURY — Recreo Coffee & Roasterie opened its shop at 1876 Centre Street on Saturday. The 18-seat cafe is the first storefront for El Recreo Estate Coffee, Inc., a Dedham-based company that imports coffee beans from co-founder Miriam Morales' family's farm in Nicaragua. The coffee shop has single-origin coffees roasted on-site, also available by the pound. Not a coffee person? There are also teas and pastries. Status: Certified open. 1876 Centre St., (617) 755-7018.
2) BELMONT — With French macarons, hand-painted chocolates, and buttery tea cookies, the late January opening of Praliné brings new sweetness to Belmont Street. So far, the artisanal confections have earned perfect reviews online. The colorful macarons come in a variety of flavors, including hazelnut, raspberry, espresso, and mandarin, and pair well with coffee, which the new shop also serves. Status: Certified open. 203 Belmont St., (617) 932-1131.
3) ALLSTON — And now for something completely different: Asiana Sushi Shabu is a new combination all-you-can-eat sushi and shabu spot in Allston. Similar to Chinese hot pot, shabu is a Japanese dish of thinly-sliced meat boiled in water. Yelpers report that in lieu of a buffet, servers take orders for sushi and shabu with an inclusive price. So far, reviews applaud quality food for a reasonable price. Status: Certified open. 137 Harvard Ave., (617) 779-0009.
