Essential East Boston Mexican restaurant Angela's Cafe (131 Lexington St.) will add a second location almost two miles away in El Paisa's space at 1012 Bennington St., right by the Orient Heights T station, according to an agenda for an upcoming licensing board hearing and confirmed by business filings. Angela's Cafe II, as the new location is referred to in the paperwork, could have a midnight closing time and the ability to serve beer, wine, and liqueurs if all is approved.

Angela's serves Mexican food with a focus on cuisine from the city of Puebla, such as chiles en nogada. The restaurant's namesake and chef, Angela Atenco Lopez, is from Puebla.

In a 2008 review in the Globe, Devra First awarded the restaurant three stars out of four, calling it "memorable" and praising the "silky, chunky" guacamole, the "endless tasty versions on the theme of something-on-a-tortilla," and the "restorative" sopa azteca. More recently, Angela's snapped up The Improper Bostonian's 2015 honor for best Mexican restaurant thanks to "sublime soups" and "incredible complex sauces."

UPDATE, 1/20/16: The new Angela's could open in February after a couple of weeks of renovations following El Paisa's closure, reports the East Boston Times-Free Press. The menu at the new location will be the same as at the original location.
