Pizzas are popping out of the coal-fired oven at Max & Leo's in Fenway. The Newton-based restaurant has officially opened up shop in Game On at 82 Landsdowne St.
This new outpost of the original Max & Leo's is one of two recent expansions from brothers Max and Leo Candidus, who have another recently opened restaurant in Chicago. The pizzas now on the menu at Game On are coal-fired for just two minutes at 900 degrees, creating an extra-crispy crust.
Inside Game On, the Max & Leo's space has taken on a rustic decor, with exposed brick and soft lighting to go with the hot pizzas — from the L'Umina (a white olive oil pizza with sliced pears, caramelized onions, basil, ricotta cheese, fresh sliced prosciutto, and a drizzle of organic wildflower honey) to Steve's Old Fashioned pizza (with a garlic purée base, house-made mozzarella, sliced tomato, and fresh basil, infused with extra virgin olive oil).
Also on the menu are calzones, wings, salads, and assorted sandwiches. A make-your-own pizza option is available, and the restaurant offers personal pizzas during the lunch hour.
Max & Leo's is open in Fenway from 11:30 a.m. to 1 a.m. Monday through Thursday, and from 11:30 a.m. to 2 a.m. Friday through Sunday.
