The frog family is expanding: Brad Brown of The Blue Frog Bakery has plans to open La Rana Rossa Pizzeria in the old Cafe Bartlett Square space, according to Jamaica Plain News. The name of the pizza place means "the red frog" in Italian, and will be a full-blown expansion of Brown's pop-up pizza concept he has debuted at the bakery.
La Rana Rossa will move in at 154 Green St., across from the Green Street MBTA station. Brown told Jamaica Plain News he will serve more than pizza there, starting with baked goods and expanding to quick-service lunch (think panini, salads, and sandwiches), plus a full-service dinner.
Brown's pizzas include a margarita with fresh mozzarella, tomatoes and basil; four-cheese; roasted mushroom pizza with red onions and arugula; and more, including a handful with sausage, salami and other cured meats. According to JPN, pies will be priced between $11 and $14.
The restaurant could start operating in the next few weeks, with a soft opening for lunch slated for January and a soft opening for dinner in February.
Correction: A previous version of this story said "La Rana Rossa" was Spanish, not Italian.
