Somerville will soon have easy access to Mexican street food. Tenoch Mexican (382 Highland Ave.) opens its third restaurant today in Davis Square. Owner Alvaro Sandoval worked to nail down an official opening date after finishing up the interior work at the new restaurant restaurant in October.
Tenoch has been around since 2012, and in addition to its restaurants in Medford and the North End, it operates two food trucks, Tenoch Móvil and El Jarocho.
The restaurant is known for its tortas (pressed Mexican sandwiches) and has quite the variety of sandwiches, from the torta campechana — which has carnitas, chorizo, chipotle mayo, beans, onions, tomatoes, avocado, and Oaxaca cheese on telera bread — to a roasted vegetable torta. In addition to its signature tortas, Tenoch serves tacos, burritos, quesadillas, and the classic horchata beverage. The restaurant also offers event catering.
The Tenoch website announced the opening date for Davis Square and listed the location's hours as Wednesday through Saturday from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. and Sunday through Wednesday from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m.
UPDATE: This is what the line looked like around noon:
