A Mexican restaurant and night club could open in Boston's up-and-coming district in 2017, according to Boston Restaurant Talk.

Big Night Entertainment Group, which is behind Empire Asian Restaurant & Lounge, Gem Italian Kitchen Lounge & Nightclub, Red Lantern Restaurant & Lounge and a number of concepts at Connecticut's Foxwoods Resort Casino, is now making a push to open a second Scorpion Bar in a Seaport Square space on Northern Avenue.

The group is raising $8 million to fund the project, according to The Boston Globe, which made note of plans filed last week with the SEC. The restaurant and night club combined will occupy three floors and 22,000 square feet. Scorpion Bar, which has another location in Foxwoods, will have seating for 175 people to dine on Mexican-inspired cuisine, like classic fajitas, quesadillas, and burritos, plus a vast selection of tequilas, as previously reported.

Veteran nightclub owners Ed and Joe Kane run Big Night with their partner, Randy Greenstein, and Ed Kane told The Boston Globe they had spent a number of years looking for a nightclub space. He said he hoped the venue, with its anticipated Las Vegas-style feel, would have appeal with age groups beyond the 20-something set.
