A funky and hip diner known for its breakfast and homemade breads is getting ready to open a new restaurant in Back Bay. The Friendly Toast, which has other locations in Cambridge and Portsmouth, New Hampshire, is now hiring staff for a planned December opening at 35 Stanhope St., according to a post on Craigslist, though an employee at the Cambridge location said the new restaurant could open in January 2016. An exact date has not been set.
Zócalo Mexican Bistro & Tequila Bar, which previously occupied the Stanhope Street space, has since closed. The Friendly Toast went through a series of licensing moves to gain permission to open in this location, as previously reported.
The Friendly Toast first opened in Portsmouth more than 20 years ago. It serves a wide range of breakfast options all day and has a selection of homemade bread on hand, in addition to its lunch and dinner menus, which include salads, soups, burgers, sandwiches, and other entrees. The restaurant also serves, beer, wine, and cocktails.
Back Bay's location of The Friendly Toast asked guests to help decorate the restaurant, and announced it is accepting "vintage, funky, eclectic" items to round out its ambiance.
