Little Big Diner Is Hiring, and It Has Some Big Questions for Possible Employees

Applicants for positions at the forthcoming Newton Center izakaya probably need a sense of humor.

Little Big Diner is getting ready to open in Newton Center (1247 Centre St.) The new East Asian soul food izakaya from David Punch's Sycamore team is now hiring ahead of its opening, according to a Facebook post.

Along with former Sycamore sous chef Daniel Scott in place as the diner's executive chef, Blayne Daley (formerly of Babbo and East by Northeast) will serve as general manager, according to the Boston Globe.

Little Big Diner is currently looking for experienced line cooks, prep cooks, and servers, but "hard ass workers that want to learn are good too." Anyone who fits the bill should be prepared to provide a resume, along with answers to some vital questions, such as: "Who would win in a cage fight...Jean Claude Van Damme or Steven Seagal?"

Once it is well-stocked with "hard ass" workers, Little Big Diner will be fully equipped to start serving up kimchi, sticky ssamjang wings, crispy rice cakes, ramen, and more. It has a sample menu available on its website, which includes draft cocktails, beer, and "little big bowls."

Correction: This piece originally mentioned Alison Hearn's previously reported involvement with the project, but she is no longer involved.
