Brookline Firefighter Charged With Assaulting Man for Slow Food Order

The incident occurred outside the Anna's Taqueria on Harvard Street.

A Brookline firefighter faces assault charges after allegedly beating up a man for ordering his food too slowly.

Firefighter Joseph Ward, 37, of Dorchester was arrested Sunday night outside the Anna's Taqueria on Harvard Street, according to WBZ. Police were called around 10:45 p.m., when witnesses reported seeing Ward punch the man in the face five to seven times while straddling him outside the restaurant. WBUR reported Ward allegedly kicked the man and threw food and a bottle at him.

The victim was reportedly homeless and was taken to the hospital for observation with a cut on his eyebrow.

Ward has been placed on administrative leave pending an investigation of the incident. He is charged with assault and battery with a dangerous weapon.
