Glutenus Minimus, a gluten-free bakery in Belmont, will close on October 17, according to a user on Chowhound. The bakery, which opened in 2008, confirmed the closure on its website.
"We want to thank you for your patronage over the past seven years. It has been a pleasure serving the gourmet gluten free needs of the Boston area," the website reads.
The bakery, which offers all manner of cookies, cakes and other treats — including pizza — will operate its normal hours until 4 p.m. on October 17.
Owner Natalie McEachern Costello, who was diagnosed with Celiac in 2002, started the bakery seven years ago to offer the gluten-free community gourmet baked goods. In a final newsletter, she wrote: "Unfortunately, at this juncture, I simply cannot continue to run Glutenus Minimus and simultaneously pursue other career opportunities and family needs that demand my immediate attention."
Costello said in the newsletter that there were no buyers for the bakery, and it had been an honor to serve the community. The Glutenus Minimus website will reportedly remain active to allow access to bakery mixes and the blog.
