At last, an opening estimate for Babbo Pizzeria e Enoteca, the first Boston restaurant from Mario Batali and Joe Bastianich's hospitality group: early March. (Will Eataly also come to Boston one day? Perhaps.) After a false start in mid-2013, the upcoming Babbo has found a home at Fan Pier, and a flurry of Craigslist job postings promise the late winter debut. The restaurant is now hiring for a variety of positions, both in the front of the house and the back, from sommeliers and floor managers to cooks and sous chefs.
A July tweet from the restaurant indicates that two positions have already been filled: Caroline Conrad (Eataly Chicago) is general manager, and Mario LaPosta (Tarry Lodge, also in the same restaurant group) is executive chef.
A press release sent over the summer promised wood-fired pizzas, pasta, gelato, and a trio of bars: drinking, antipasti, pizza. The roomy restaurant will take up 8,700 square feet, and it will be built to meet Certified Green standards, which include specifications about waste reduction, water efficiency, sustainable building materials, and more.
