Just in time for Classics Week, Clover is serving historically-influenced hasty pudding this afternoon at the Hasty Pudding parade, 2:45 P.M. to 4 P.M., where Amy Poehler is being named Woman of the Year. The truck will be doling out the pudding as well as apple fritters and hot apple cider. (The parade ends right in front of Clover's Harvard Square brick-and-mortar location.)
Hasty pudding, a classic New England dish, dates back to the Revolutionary War, and as the name suggests, it's a quick porridge. Clover has been playing around with various recipes for the past few weeks; yesterday, the team narrowed eight semi-finalists down to two favorites that will both be served today:
- Savory hasty pudding: Hot bolted wheat from Green Mountain flour, Mapleline milk, Grafton cheddar, just-fried leeks, whole clove, nutmeg, and onion.
- Sweet hasty pudding: Hot cornmeal porridge with molasses and butter, based on a recipe from The American Frugal Housewife, published in 1833.
