Legal on the Mystic officially opened its doors yesterday in Somerville's ever-expanding Assembly Row. Open for both lunch and dinner, this new outpost of Legal Sea Foods takes on an industrial feel with brick walls that surround large garage-style windows, one of focal points of the restaurant. One wall, entirely comprised of a walk-in wine cellar, also grabs diners' eyes. Yellow covered chairs and burgundy banquettes accent the lightly hued wooden finishes and the brick walls, while custom paper placemats sit on the tables at the ready. The open kitchen lines one of the walls of the restaurant so that diners can watch the action unfold.
The name of the restaurant is emblazoned on the walls and etched into the glass windows. In the center of it all, there's a large bar with enough seats to accommodate 90 patrons, giving them a clear view of all areas of the room. Golden sheets of metal mesh and globe lights hang from the ceiling. The restaurant sits along the Mystic River, giving a nice country feel in contrast to the industrial vibe of the decor. Legal on the Mystic was designed by Johnson Studio in Atlanta.
