The Crumbling Cupcake Trend Claims Another Casualty

Boston's cupcake scene lost Crumbs Bake Shop and Cakeology recently, and now Kickass Cupcakes is also gone, Boston Restaurant Talk reports. The shop had recently moved its storefront from pedestrian-heavy Davis Square to a less-trafficked spot up Highland Avenue, where their bakery operations were already located.

Last week, a tipster told Eater that a friend whose company orders frequently from Kickass got an email stating that they had closed. Kickass Cupcakes' Facebook page disappeared some time this week, and the last Twitter dispatches are from Friday, July 26. At least one customer was allegedly left out in the cold on his wedding day this past weekend, wondering what happened to his $300 worth of prepaid cupcakes.
