Alzheimer's Fundraiser; Doughnut Challenge

HUB-WIDE — Catalyst's William Kovel has pulled together a group of chefs around town to form Food for Thought, an initiative benefitting the Alzheimer's Association's Massachusetts/New Hampshire Chapter, for the third year in a row. From September 21-28, Catalyst and other restaurants (Deuxave, Boston Chops, dante, il Casale, Abby Lane, Back Bay Harry's, Pastoral, Moody's, and Zebra's Bistro, with more to come) will donate a portion of proceeds from a signature appetizer. ON THE INTERNET — Boston Common Coffee Company launches a contest tomorrow challenging customers to come up with the best crazy doughnut (either vegan, stuffed, or traditional cake). Participants can submit ideas via social media from tomorrow, August 27, through September 3. The company, which has a roasting facility as well as three cafes, celebrates "Doughnut Thursday" every week. A fourth location will open in early September on Canal Street. [Facebook]

BEYOND BOSTON — Tell your Philadelphia friends to check out this cookbook dinner at Vernick, featuring Boston's own Jamie Bissonnette. (Vernick's chef/owner Greg Vernick and general manager Ryan Mulholland both worked here in Boston with Ken Oringer.) The event takes place on September 8, and tickets cost $115 per person, with optional beverage pairings for an additional $35. Bissonnette's charcuterie cookbook comes out next month. [-EPHI-]
