Gyu-Kaku, a giant international chain based in Japan, is expanding its Boston-area presence. A new location will open in Harvard Square, reports Boston Restaurant Talk, citing licensing information. The first location around here opened on Beacon Street in Brookline in April 2013. The upcoming Cambridge space will be at 18 Eliot Street and could open this winter, according to a post on the restaurant's Facebook page back in April. The space would hold about 118 seats, and there could be a 12-seat patio as well. They're seeking the wine & malt beverages license from the shuttered Harvard Square Bertucci's.
Gyu-Kaku specializes in yakiniku, where diners grill their own food right at the table. The menu offers various combinations of appetizers, things to grill (meats, seafood, poultry, vegetables), and even s'mores for dessert.
