Shake Shack Progress in Back Bay; Next Steps for Whisk

SOUTH END & BEYOND — Now that the news is out that Bread and Salt Hospitality will take over the Wink & Nod kitchen in a month, Boston Magazine checks in with the Whisk team, currently in place at the South End restaurant, about what's next for them. First, they'll do some culinary traveling in preparation for their next project — and then they'll make that next project a reality. It's a brick-and-mortar location, and it will hopefully open in mid-October in Cambridge or Jamaica Plain. They've already got investors lined up. [BM]

BACK BAY — A tipster reports that "coming soon" signage is up at the site of the Shake Shack on Newbury Street. At an upcoming hearing of the Back Bay Architectural Commission, the chain will seek permission to build a patio. [CityOfBoston.gov]

INMAN SQUARE — East by Northeast has just launched a new tasting menu option, "The Chef's Window," for seating at the counter/bar. It's a five-course tasting menu ($55/person) featuring the newest dishes in the works — and direct interaction with the chef. Reservations required and must be made 24 hours in advance.
