New Haven favorite Pepe's Pizza will take over the space of The Fireplace in Brookline, according to a press release sent out today. The Fireplace, which is 13 years old, will close after business on December 31, 2014, at which point chef/owner Jim Solomon will turn fully to his catering business, and Pepe's will move in.
"As a resident of Washington Square, there are not many restaurants that I would be comfortable turning our space over to," says Solomon (a New Haven native), via the press release, "but it is a dream to transfer our lease to Pepe's to let them build a new tradition here, and for them to introduce their outstanding product to Bostonians. I will be a frequent customer."
Founded in 1925, Pepe's is "the grandaddy of New Haven's pizza scene," and it has since expanded into a small regional chain. This will be the first Massachusetts location, and there may be more on the horizon eventually.
