The upcoming Central Square Clover has actually succeeded in getting the License Commission's approval to stay open 24 hours a day, reports Cambridge Day. It's slated to open in the late fall in the space formerly occupied by Hi-Fi Pizza, which was open until 3 a.m. on Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays.
The cautious approval, determined by a split vote, comes with a requirement that Clover return to the Commission three months after opening to see how things are going. Police Commissioner Robert Haas tried to dissuade Clover owner Ayr Muir from seeking the 24-hour license, urging him to at least open up first and get a feel for the location before considering it, and he ended up abstaining from the vote. Muir expressed faith in his "peaceful" customer base and recalled his days as a student, wishing there were late-night options in Central Square.
