Yes, Mario Batali Is Opening a Boston Restaurant (For Real This Time)

Back in November 2012, news emerged that Mario Batali had his first Boston restaurant in the works — Babbo Pizzeria e Enoteca, which sounded similar to his existing OTTO Enoteca Pizzeria concept. (But Boston already has an unrelated OTTO pizza chain, much to Batali's displeasure, so the different name might have something to do with that.) The Fort Point project never got off the ground, but now, Babbo Pizzeria is slated (for real) for an 8,700-square-foot location at Boston's Fan Pier, reports the Globe. A press release confirms the news and states that it will open this winter.

The restaurant will focus on wood-fired pizzas, pasta, and gelato, and there will be three bars (drinks, antipasti, pizza) and lots of outdoor dining. It'll be located on the ground floor of Eleven Fan Pier, one of the Vertex Pharmaceuticals buildings, and construction will start shortly. The space is intended to meet high sustainability standards. Meanwhile, Batali has said that he'd also love to bring Eataly, his giant Italian concept full of restaurants and shops, to Boston, but he has not yet found the right location.
