El Centro Tres Opens Today

Photo: El Centro Tres, under construction last month/Facebook

The El Centro family adds a third location today, opening in Belmont, according to a press release. The Mexican restaurant is based in the South End and also has a Brookline outpost, El Centro Dos. Chef/owner Allan Rodrigues has traveled through Mexico to pick up decorations and recipes for the new restaurant, which seats about 70 people (larger than its siblings) and includes a full liquor license, a rarity in Belmont. Get ready for sangrias, margaritas, and micheladas.

Dishes include a chorizo-topped guacamole, Sonora-style carne asada, shrimp wrapped in bacon, a quesadilla featuring huitlacoche (a corn fungus), and lots more. El Centro Tres is open from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. and 5 p.m. to 10 p.m. Monday through Friday. 66 Leonard St., Belmont, MA; 617-484-1515; Website

UPDATE: The opening has been pushed until tomorrow — Wednesday, July 2.
