Il Casale Cucina Campana + Bar, the third restaurant for Dante de Magistris, is expected to open early next month. While the menu will still be tweaked a bit before doors officially open, it currently features Neopolitan street food, small bites, and family-style meals. Boston Magazine shared the full menu last week.
At first look, it's hard not to be drawn to the bright blue hues of the tile wall that frames the open kitchen, that — even though not serving food yet — is bustling with that pre-opening buzz. On a sunny day, the light seeps through the wall of floor-to-ceiling windows, revealing downtown Lexington in action. The dining room is to one side, with intimate tables set before two larger chef's tables that lead right up to the kitchen, and thick, beige curtains further add to the airy feel of the dining room. Red walls give a dramatic touch, and large industrial-style lamps hang over the chef's tables while smaller ones illuminate the kitchen, keeping it in the spotlight.
On the other side of the room, a large marble-topped bar is surrounded by tables, and a row of banquettes divides the living room from the bar area. A large map of southern Italy lines the back wall and provides a splash of color to contrast against rustic wooden chairs. Oversized mirrors and exposed brick cover the other walls in the bar area.
