DAVIS SQUARE — The Painted Burro is hosting its second annual "Guac Off" this Sunday, April 13, at 3 p.m. 12 semi-finalists have been chosen from guest-submitted recipes, and attendees can vote alongside a judging panel to decide the winner, who will receive a gift card to the restaurant — and his or her recipe will be featured on The Painted Burro's menu. This event is free; register on Eventbrite. [Eventbrite]
MAGOUN SQUARE — Olde Magoun's Saloon hosts themed Wednesdays that change each month, and April is all about "heat & hops." Tonight and subsequent April Wednesdays, from 5 p.m. to 11 p.m., there will be ten spicy dishes available (including dessert), and ten taps will be devoted to IPAs. Dishes include Smokin' Death Bones (smoked pork ribs with ghost chili barbecue sauce), Ring of Fire Shrimp & Grits (grilled shrimp and andouille in a cayenne sauce with cheese grits), and Jamaican Me Crazy Goat Stew (West Indian curried goat, scotch bonnet, habanero, onion, potato, and plantain). CENTRAL SQUARE — Thelonious Monkfish has collaborated with Boston Winery to produce a sparkling brachetto called Zombie Elixir. It is an "instantaneous cure for voodoo curses, infectious zombie bites, a hard day at the office, or persons living in a vegetative state," so there you go. It'll be available exclusively at the restaurant, starting this weekend. [Facebook]
