Kindred, the upcoming Davis Square "tea and tonic cafe" located next to (and affiliated with) Johnny D's, is getting closer to opening, according to its website. Hiring will begin in late May, so it looks like a summer opening could be in the cards. Meanwhile, interested customers can get a sneak peek of the offerings at the Taste of Somerville event in Davis Square on June 4 and Herbstalk at the Somerville Armory on June 7 and 8.
In late January, owner Carla DeLellis updated Eater on the progress, including a collaboration with "tea aficionados" Evy Chen and Kerry Inman to create the initial blends, which have no added flavorings and are sourced sustainably. Also, Johnny D's bartender Sam Newman was busy crafting teapots at Mudflat Studio, and Kindred received lab approval to offer soda and shrub concentrates as retail products. Stay tuned for an opening date.
