A 'French Spirit' Will Remain at Former Chez Henri Space

Photo: Official Site

The former Chez Henri space in Cambridge will become a new restaurant that is "French in spirit," reports Boston.com's Restaurant Hub blog, and Susan Regis (former UpStairs on the Square chef) and Rene Becker (owner of Hi-Rise Bread Company) are behind it. Regis explains to Boston.com that they both live nearby and have always loved Chez Henri, which closed in November after nearly two decades but hosted a pop-up at Mariposa Bakery last month.

UpStairs on the Square also closed at the end of 2013; co-owner Deborah Hughes intends to open a smaller place at some point, co-owner Mary-Catherine Deibel took a development and publicity job at Longy School of Music of Bard, and executive sous chef Carey Dobies landed at the recently-opened Savvor Restaurant & Lounge in the Leather District. Meanwhile, a restaurant that might be called Parsnip could open in the UpStairs space, featuring a French-trained chef from the UK.

Hi-Rise Bread Company operates two shops — one just outside Porter Square on Massachusetts Avenue and one in Cambridge's Observatory Hill neighborhood.
