The Somerville coffee shop duo of Diesel Cafe and Bloc 11 is expanding. Their new sibling is Forge Baking Company, "a full service bakery & cafe with +/- 50 seats," that will open by the old Seabra space on Somerville Ave, reports Boston Restaurant Talk. According to a job posting on Forge's website, it should open within the next six months, so August or earlier.
The idea has been in the works for nearly two years, but it was originally intended to act as just a commissary for the existing properties so that they could "provide pastry on par with the food." Now, the full bakery is on the way, but it's "still just an embryo. A little bundle of ideas, proposed floor plans, equipment lists and formulas." Stay tuned for more.
