Pig Roasts and More at ester in Dorchester

ester, a "neighborhood place" with a sprawling patio that could play host to pig roasts and barbecue buffets, could open by April 1 in Dorchester's Lower Mills, in the former Ledge Kitchen & Drinks space. The Dorchester Reporter checked in with co-owner Eleanor Arpino, once a longtime vice president of operations at Davio's, about the upcoming restaurant. A few years back, Arpino worked as a consultant for the Ledge and fell in love with it, eventually asking the owners if she could buy it. Now, she's in the midst of minor renovations, including some new paint and a new kitchen floor.

The menu, Arpino told the Dorchester Reporter will be a mix of standard burgers and salads as well as dishes that reflect the neighborhood's diversity. There will be "things that people don't necessarily cook at home," she said. "Like you might not take the time to make lamb shanks or lamb stew. So that's something we want to do." And then there are the plans for all sorts of warm-weather fun on the patio.
