404 Tapas Lounge opened at 404 Harvard Street in Brookline earlier this month, Boston Restaurant Talk reports, noting that Khayyam, a Persian restaurant, previously existed in the same space. Executive chef and owner Rachid Kourda is a native of Tunisia and went to culinary school in France before traveling throughout Europe to learn about other types of food. Locally, he has worked as sous chef at Harvard Gardens.
The cuisine is "top notch new gastronomy tapas...influenced by a French-New American tapas culinary free styling," according to the restaurant's Facebook page. Brunch is served on weekends from 11:30 a.m. to 3 p.m., including dishes like a sausage pancake sandwich, croque-madames and croque-monsieurs, and shawarma. Weekday lunch is available from 11:30 a.m. to 3 p.m., and dinner is served daily from 5 p.m. to midnight; think small plates like bone-in goat or demi-glace oxtail, flatbreads, sandwiches, and deep-fried Oreos.
