Denver-based "smashed" burger chain Smashburger wants to add a second Massachusetts location (the first is in Natick.) Boston Restaurant Talk reports that the restaurant has applied for a license to open in Central Square at 589 Massachusetts Ave., with up to 70 seats and a closing time of 11 p.m. daily.
The name refers to the chain's process of smashing meat on the grill, which is meant to keep the juices seared in. The menu differs a little bit depending on the region, so the Natick outpost has a "New Englander" hamburger with cranberry sauce, cranberry stilton, and grilled onions. There are also grilled chicken sandwiches, shakes, salads, and sides.
