Bibim's Expansion to Davis Square Will Actually Be Called Meju

The Korean restaurant is nearing an opening date.

The exterior is up (and the interior is looking fairly close to complete) at 243 Elm Street in Somerville's Davis Square, a former McDonald's space that will become an expansion of Bibim, a Korean restaurant in Allston. Now that the signage exists, it has become clear that the new restaurant will be called Meju, not Bibim.

The name, according to the upcoming restaurant's website, has two "distinctive, yet representative meanings of [their] philosophy." For one, it refers to "a brick of dried fermented soybeans" that acts as a key ingredient in "several traditional Korean condiments," and it also means "every week" in Korean.

"We strive to share with you a modern dining experience highlighting authentic and traditional Korean cuisine," promises the restaurant.

In early December, a post on the Bibim Facebook page stated that the new restaurant was "coming together very soon." It will be about twice as large as its Allston sibling, seating around 92, and there will be a full liquor license.
