Today is Thursday, December 18, and it is a good day to spend next to nothing on food.
First, your lunch plans for the day: Mei Mei is teaming up with delivery service Caviar, which recently expanded to Boston, to offer pierogi dumplings (with sour cream and cabbage pickles, of course) by delivery for just $1 today. And first-time Caviar users don't have to pay a delivery fee. The deal starts at 11 a.m.
And for dinner, Bao Nation. The Central Square bao shop, which opened a month ago, shares space with Dosa Factory in the back of Shalimar. Today, it's celebrating its grand opening by offering one free bao to diners who come in between 5 p.m. and 7 p.m. and show that they "like" the restaurant on Facebook. The bao-filled menu will soon include rice bowls as well, according to a press release, and come spring, there will be outdoor seating and a take-out window. The restaurant is open from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. (but be sure to show up between 5 p.m. and 7 p.m. today for the freebie.)
