La Voile owner Pierre Honegger is set to purchase Harvard Square standby Sandrine's Bistro, reports the Boston Business Journal, in the wake of the latter filing for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection. Sandrine's owners Gwyneth B. Trost and Amy Nomejko will reportedly consult through the transition and continue to run the restaurant afterwards.
Back in August, chef and partner Raymond Ost departed and Matthew Stogryn came onboard as executive chef, revamping the menu with "a young modern French flair," according to a press release sent in the fall. He was joined by consulting chef Michael Betts. At the time, Trost was optimistic that the new offerings and the expanded bar would allow Sandrine's to become "a local hot spot," according to the release.
But today's Boston Business Journal article blames the growth of the surrounding neighborhood into a "retail and restaurant destination" as one of the nails in the coffin for Sandrine's under the outgoing ownership. The article also quotes Trost from the bankruptcy filings, pointing at "recent healthy eating and dieting trends."
At this point, it's unclear what changes might come to the restaurant under the new ownership. La Voile is located on Newbury Street in Back Bay.
