Steve's Greek Cuisine, a three-decade staple on Newbury Street, closed earlier this year. Soon, the space will have a new life as Dosa Factory, an expansion of the Central Square dosa shop that resides inside Shalimar Food & Spices. (And now Bao Nation resides inside of Dosa Factory, essentially turning Shalimar into an edible nesting doll.)
A recent Bao Nation press release hinted at an upcoming Newbury Street location for its dosa-filled sibling, coming "soon," and the restaurant confirms to Eater that it'll be in the Steve's space at 316 Newbury. The same release also resurrected hope that the long-planned Moody Street location in Waltham, first announced almost five years ago, is still happening. (Most recently, the Dosa Factory website promised a summer 2014 opening.)
For a tiny space in the back of a store, Dosa Factory offers a ridiculously huge menu of dosa and other Indian meals and snacks, as well as a few items in the fusion realm, from an "Indian Chinese" section of the menu to naan pizzas. No word yet on an opening timeline for the new Boston location — or when/if the Waltham one is really, truly happening.
