After holding a quiet soft opening on Wednesday last week, Barcelona Wine Bar closed again to prepare to open for real on a mysterious date in the near future. Turns out that date was Friday. The newest outpost of the tapas-and-wine-bar chain is now officially open in the former Sibling Rivalry space in the South End, and according to a quick flurry of early Yelp activity, guests have already been enjoying copious amounts of jamon mangalica, which is carved tableside, as well as various tapas and wine.
Based in Connecticut and mostly situated there, Barcelona Wine Bar also opened a Brookline location nearly a year ago in the now-bustling Washington Square neighborhood. The South End location is the tenth, and the company celebrates its twentieth anniversary in 2015.
The menu is mainly comprised of tapas, including a variety of vegetarian options, plus some larger entrees, like a shareable paella priced per person. On the drink side, there's a substantial amount of alcoholic options, with a particular focus on wines from Spain and Argentina.
Barcelona South End is open from 3 p.m. until "late" seven days a week, according to the website, although South End blogger BosGuy hears that brunch may be on the horizon as well. The Brookline location serves brunch from 11 p.m. to 4 p.m. on both Saturdays and Sundays.
