Gracie's Ice Cream Will Triumphantly Open This Friday

Somerville's Union Square is getting sweeter.

At last, Gracie's Ice Cream will give Union Square the year-round ice cream destination it deserves. The final inspections are complete, and the shop will open to the public this Friday, November 7, co-owner Aaron Cohen tells Eater. (And don't you dare suggest to him that ice cream is just a summer food.)

For now, Gracie's will be open from 3 p.m. to 9 p.m. on weekdays and noon to 9 p.m. on weekends, although this Saturday, November 8, it'll open at 10 a.m. and celebrating "Halloween Redux" from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Anyone in costume will get a card redeemable for a free cone at the next visit.

Cohen previously told Eater that the shop will probably open with a menu of about 10 flavors available at once, pulled from a rotation of about 20. Keep an eye out for Chocolate Fluff, which he was experimenting with a few weeks back. In addition to just plain ice cream, there will be sundaes, some toppings, and other ice cream treats, like frappes, ice cream sandwiches, and ice cream cakes. It won't all be on the menu right at opening, so you'll just have to keep going back to try it all.
