PAUL and Frozen Hoagies Both Open Today, Making Friday Better Than Ever

Say hello to a bakery and an ice cream sandwich shop, both in Somerville.

Today is Friday. It is also opening day for two new businesses in Somerville: PAUL, a more-than-a-century-old French bakery chain, now open at Assembly Row; and Frozen Hoagies, a brick-and-mortar location of a truck that vends ice cream sandwiches. Pretty sweet way to end the work week, n'est-ce pas?

Here's a look inside PAUL, which is the first of perhaps a dozen Boston-area locations in the works. The ancient chain has over 600 locations worldwide, and this one features nearly 2,500 square feet of space full of breads and other baked goods, sandwiches, coffee, and more. PAUL is open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Saturday and 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Sunday.

As for Frozen Hoagies, it's open from noon to 9 p.m. today at 864 Broadway in Powder House Circle, right near Tufts. The truck offers a rotating array of ice cream sandwiches (a variety of cookies are available, as well as different ice cream flavors), and there's no indication that the brick-and-mortar will be any different.
