That previously reported Naco Taco Food Park slated for 297 Massachusetts Avenue near MIT? Get excited: Michael Scelfo is behind it, reports Boston Magazine. The Speakeasy Group's Alex Tannenbaum and Brian Lesser are also involved in the venture, which may go by Naco Taqueria. Naco means "irreverent" in Spanish slang and conveniently rhymes with taco.
Scelfo told the Globe that while the plan is to be "mindful and respectful of traditional taqueria style," there will also be an edge. "I want to stretch the notion of what a taco can be," he told the Globe, hinting at unusual cuts of meat, unique salsas, and more, but still within the realm of "Latin flavor profiles."
Naco could open in early 2015 in the former Lotte Market space, and there will be indoor and outdoor seating.
