Union Square Donuts threw open its doors at 7 a.m. this morning, finally settling into its own space (still in Union Square, of course) after originally opening in one shared space in early 2013 and then moving to another shared space in the neighborhood. The new shop is located at 20 Bow Street, full of reclaimed wood, unrecognizable as a former convenience store.
Co-owner Josh Danoff previously told Eater that the new shop would allow for an expanded schedule, a bigger product line, and more volume. He hinted at new "donut-related products" and other pastries, like brioche rolls. And savory donuts and breakfast sandwiches could launch next month, according to Boston Magazine, which also reported that this larger production space could allow for new "satellite locations" in the future.
The opening roster includes some popular donuts that have been in Union Square Donuts' repertoire for awhile, like sea-salted bourbon caramel and maple bacon, as well as newcomers (hello, raspberry jam-filled). There's a vegan donut that changes weekly — currently cinnamon sugar — and 'tis the season for apple cider donuts. (There's also hot apple cider for drinking, a well as coffee, tea, and Spindrift sodas.)
