Whole Foods Opens in Somerville Today

Photo: Whole Foods Somerville/Facebook

The newest Whole Foods opened this morning with a "bread breaking ceremony," complete with Mayor Curtatone and probably the longest braided challah ever baked. The market took over the former Johnnie's Foodmaster space (read a nice bit of nostalgia here.) This location won't have beer and wine as Massachusetts law allows for a chain to license only five locations, and Whole Foods has already hit the limit.

Whole Founds was founded in Austin in 1980 and has now extended its organic tentacles throughout North America and the UK with over 340 stores. Somerville Beat has some photos of the interior of the new store. An Arlington location will also open up in just a couple of weeks.
