Surprise! South End Sushi Spot Opens

Photo: Roka/Facebook

"Unique, Modern Asian dining concept" Roka has been quietly going though the opening motions over the last few months, hiring people and such, but there was no news of an actual opening date. Surprise! It's today, UrbanDaddy reports. The 7,000-square-foot restaurant features a double-sided bar with sushi on one side and cocktails on the other, and there's a private dining room with space for 50.

As for that sushi, there are huge boats full of it, plus a standard a la carte selection of rolls and sashimi. On the cooked side, there's a large menu featuring Japanese- and Chinese-American classics, from bento boxes and grilled teriyaki meats with rice to pupu platters and General Gau's chicken. Roka is open daily from 11am to 2am, and the kitchen closes at 1am.
