The opening of Oleana's new Somerville sibling, Sarma, could be imminent. Boston Restaurant Talk notes that a recent job posting on BostonChefs.com indicates the "end of the month," but several other postings say "next month." And a Chowhound user who visited Oleana on Tuesday was told next month as well, "no specific date." Meanwhile, lovely signage has gone up, matching the splash page for the under-construction website, and it's clear that the old Paddock space has undergone quite a transformation, at least from the outside. The foreboding old exterior had tiny windows mostly obscured by a huge awning, but now the facade feels wide open with windows that appear to stretch from floor to ceiling.
The Eastern Mediterranean "neighborhood meze bar" will have a full liquor license (unlike Oleana, which only serves wine and beer), and Island Creek Oyster Bar alum Vikram Hegde will serve as bar manager, creating cocktails with "exotic components like mellow-hot Aleppo pepper flakes, citrusy sumac, and rich, tart pomegranate molasses," Boston Magazine reports.
